An Offering of Praise
I've been a fan of the Calgary Flames since they won the Stanley Cup in 1989. I remember watching my first hockey games on TV with my father when the Flames beat the Canadiens in the Cup finals. I've been on the bandwagon ever since even though they've been a mediocre team (at best) since then. Still, I give my allegiance to them each year in hopes that they win a Cup during my time here on earth.
We give our "allegiance" to many things: a sports team, a flag, a philosophy, an author, etc. There is something intimate about giving someone or something our desires, resources, and time - continual sacrifice. While that isn't always bad... what if we prioritized that same allegiance to Jesus with every fibre of our being. How different would our lives or faith communities be?
Hebrew 13:15 says, "...let us offer through Jesus a continual sacrifice of praise to God, proclaiming our allegiance to his name." As we dive deeper into this Christmas season, how is Jesus showing up as a top priority in terms of our time, our resources and our mindfulness?
