Flexibility

As we approach the end of September, students young and old, have settled back into the routine of learning.  As disciples of Christ, we too are called to be learners, continually growing in faith, knowledge and wisdom. Jesus himself calls us to learn with Him, of Him and from Him. As He says in Matthew 11:29, “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me… “. Whether we read it as “learn of me” or “learn from me”, the message is the same; we need to be ongoing students no matter our age, always open to growing in wisdom and character.

Over time, it is easy to become inflexible, both in our bodies and minds. We hesitate to develop new skills or resist new ideas.  However, Proverbs 19:8 reminds us that learning is just not for a season. “The one who gets wisdom loves life; the one who cherishes understanding will soon prosper.”  A lifelong pursuit of learning can not only enrich our lives but also bring us closer to God.

October is an opportunity to reset your patterns, to reach out to new relationships, explore a new habit or skill, join a discipleship or other unique group.  Being in community is a wonderful way to stretch, grow and learn.  The key is to be open, motivated and take that first action step.
